In 1927 the German RAL organization invented a collection of 40 colors. Prior to that date manufacturers and customers had to exchange color samples to describe a tint, whereas from then on they would rely on numbers. With tints constantly added to the collection, the collection was revised in 1961. In the 1960s the colors were given supplemental names to avoid confusion in case of transposed digits. Since the expansion in 2020, RAL Classic consists of 216 colors.

RAL Classic is a collection of 216 colors. 1 is a micaceous iron color, 1 is a metallic color, 6 are fluorescent colors and 15 others are pearlescent colors. The RAL Classic colors have a 4-digit number in combination with the letters ‘RAL’ (for example RAL 1028). The first digit is a code number (1: yellow, 2: orange, 3: red, 4: violet, 5: blue, 6: green, 7: grey, 8: brown and 9: white and black). The remaining 3 digits are chosen sequentially. The name of a color shade (for example ‘Melon yellow’ for RAL 1028) is an auxiliary designation. For a definite identification of a color one should use both in order to avoid confusion caused by possible transposition of digits.

Cylinder head torque settings depend on your tractor model. Nuffield and Leyland tractors fitted with 3 or 4 cylinder diesel engines require a torque setting of 100 lb/ft (136 Nm). Later Leyland models and Marshall tractors require a torque setting of 110 lb/ft (149 Nm).

Leyland lightweight tractors require a different torque setting again of 40 lb/ft for petrol models and 71 lb/ft for diesel models.

CK-4 is formulated to be compatible with all engines, including older model tractors. It is available in the same viscosity and weight classifications you have always used.

CK-4 is also available in different types of oil – conventional, full synthetic, and synthetic blend. So you’ll use the same kind of oil you have always used, it’s just better quality oil.

FA-4 engine oils are designed for new tractor engines and have limited backwards-compatibility. Lower viscosity grades makes them perfect protection for the new fuel-efficient, lower emissions engines, but they should not be used in older models.

The first step is to check the fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir. If low/empty refill to the correct level and attempt to bleed the system. However, if the brake fluid levels are correct the fault usually lies with the flexi brake hoses (AAU5140/A). If the flexi hoses are replaced and the problem persists this may be a fault with the brake balance valve, contact us for options.

To bleed the Clutch system follow the instructions in the diagram ‘Clutch Bleeding” below. To bleed the brake system, follow the instructions in the below diagram “Brake Bleeding”.

The first step is to check the levels in the clutch fluid reservoir. If low/empty refill the reservoir to the correct level and bleed the hydraulic clutch system. Once complete check for leaks.

This is normally down to incorrect clutch slave cylinder adjustment when a new clutch is fitted. On models fitted with a self-adjusting system the clutch doesn’t need to adjusted during the life of the clutch plate providing the initial setup is correct. Set the clutch slave cylinder clearance to 12.7mm as per the diagram below. More information is available in the workshop manual and operators handbook.
